# AI Adoption Labs

AI Adoption Labs presents doctoral research by Helena Gutierrez at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau. The research explores how organizations implement AI while engaging employees in transformation. Its focus includes human-centered AI implementation, change management and employees' experiences of adoption.

## Literature review

**Title:** Diagnosing resistance, designing adoption: a systematic review of human and organizational factors in artificial-intelligence implementation in engineering organizations.

**Authors:** Helena Gutiérrez, Enrique Gutiérrez and Martin Eigner.

The review examines factors shaping adoption, sustained use and realized value of AI in engineering organizations. It interprets the literature through Maurer's three levels of resistance and Shea and Solomon's Work Systems Model.

### Observations from the reviewed studies

- The review includes 679 reports, including 522 primary empirical studies.
- Of 274 field studies able to observe organizational change, 176 (64%) report no change to a work-system lever. The denominator is these field studies, not all organizations or all included reports.
- Seven studies measure realized organizational value. Task-level gains, perceived usefulness and initial adoption do not establish sustained use or organizational benefit.
- Reported concerns include uncertainty about tools, professional identity and autonomy, and trust in change leadership.

### Practical implications and hypotheses

The review emphasizes planning and resourcing verification of AI output, workable oversight, and measurement after pilots, including verification time, rework and realized value. These are implications of the review, not guaranteed outcomes of an intervention. The full article contains ten research propositions; they should not be presented as proven causal relationships.

### Limitations

Evidence is strongest in software engineering. Findings should be transferred cautiously to mechanical, electrical and systems engineering, where evidence gaps remain. An absence of reported work-system change does not prove that no change occurred. No journal, DOI, publication date or peer-review status is inferred from the uploaded documents.

## Research survey

[Participate in the English-language survey](https://aiadoptionlabs.com/survey).

The survey concerns employees' experiences of AI adoption in organizations. The full path takes approximately 6–7 minutes. Respondents selecting “No AI usage yet” receive questions about personal openness, team openness and conditions for successful introduction, followed by reflection and optional contact information. Survey responses and personal contact details are not public research sources.
